Dr Martin de Scally
BVSc(hons) MMedVet(medicine)

Martin started Hilton Veterinary Hospital in 2010. He has been practising as a veterinarian for over 30 years in general and referral practice. Martin specialised in Small Animal Veterinary Medicine at Onderstepoort. He is a registered Medicine Specialist with the South African Veterinary Council. Martin receives many referrals from other vets in the area and from other parts of the country. His passion is non invasive diagnosis and treatment as well as pain control.

Martin is also involved in lecturing and continuing education locally, nationally and internationally. He has presented at South African Veterinary Congresses and World Veterinary Congresses. Martin is currently the chairman of the South African Veterinary Association KZN branch, he is a member of the Rabies action group in KZN and 2012 he was elected on to the World Small Animal Veterinary Association committee.

Martin is married to Lauren and they have 2 sons. Nicholas and Christopher. They both enjoy playing soccer, running, cycling, swimming, playing the piano and singing. They have 2 dogs, Jena and Loki. In his spare time Martin enjoys running, cycling, playing soccer, playing the guitar, singing with his sons and being a Dad.


Dr Sujatha Harrylal
BSc, BVSc, PG Dip Med

Sujatha joined Hilton Veterinary Hospital in January 2017. She is one of our dedicated, caring veterinarians that form part of our team. Suj, as we fondly call her, has an amazing sense of humour and keeps us entertained.

Sujatha is married to Delon, who is also a vet.

She enjoys internal medicine and has studied further to show her love for treating animals in the best way possible.

Sujatha has 4 dogs. 3 German short haired pointers and a Boerboel cross as well as 1 cat.

In her spare time Suj enjoys cycling, playing the piano and doing field work with her dogs.


Dr Sarah Halgreen
MSc Animal Science, BVSc

Sarah joined Hilton Veterinary Hospital in March 2017. She is one of our dedicated, caring and for ever smiling, veterinarians that form part of our team. Sarah qualified as a vet in 2015 and she spent time practicing as a state vet as well as locuming at a small animal after hours clinic and volunteering with the coastal horse care unit.

Before Sarah studied Veterinary Science she taught at the SA jockey academy for 5 years while finishing her masters degree in animal science.

Sarah is very enthusiastic to learn as much as she can in all aspects of veterinary science.

Sarah has 2 German short haired pointers.

In her spare time Sarah enjoys the outdoors particularly going to the beach and mountains. She also enjoys reading.

Dr. Martin de Scally is the founder of Hilton Veterinary Hospital and a registered Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist with the South African Veterinary Council. With over 30 years of experience in both general and specialist veterinary practice, he is widely recognised for his clinical excellence, diagnostic acumen, and compassionate approach to patient care.

Martin completed his specialist training in Small Animal Medicine at Onderstepoort and has developed a deep passion for non-invasive diagnostics, advanced internal medicine, oncology, and pain management. His ability to manage complex medical cases with both precision and empathy makes him a trusted referral point for veterinarians across KwaZulu-Natal and beyond.

Beyond his clinical work, Martin is deeply committed to veterinary education and mentorship. He regularly lectures both locally and internationally and has presented at major conferences, including the South African and World Veterinary Congresses. He also serves on the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) committee and is an active member of the Rabies Action Group in KZN.

Outside of the hospital, Martin leads a full and active life with his wife, Lauren, and their two sons, Nicholas and Christopher. Together, they enjoy soccer, running, swimming, cycling, music, and spending time with their beloved dogs, Jena and Loki. In his spare time, you might find Martin playing guitar, singing with his sons, or enjoying the outdoors.

Lauren de Scally has been an integral part of Hilton Veterinary Hospital since 2010, bringing heart, creativity, and organisation to the practice’s day-to-day operations. With a strong focus on marketing, client engagement, and administration, Lauren manages the hospital’s newsletters, maintains the website and Facebook page, and oversees financial and account matters.

Known for her personal touch and genuine care, Lauren enjoys connecting with clients and getting to know their pets. Whether she’s behind the camera capturing a special patient moment or crafting content for the community, her passion for animals and people shines through.

Lauren is married to Dr. Martin de Scally, founder of Hilton Veterinary Hospital. Together they have two sons, Nicholas and Christopher, and a lively home filled with love, laughter, and their two dogs, Jena and Loki. Outside of work, Lauren enjoys running, tennis, playing the piano, spending time outdoors, baking, and, above all, being a devoted mom.

Specialist Veterinary Anaesthesiologist

Dr. Kenneth Joubert is a visiting specialist at Hilton Veterinary Hospital, bringing over two decades of expertise in veterinary anaesthesia and pain management. His passion lies in ensuring that every procedure is as safe, controlled, and stress-free as possible—for both patients and their owners.

Kenneth plays a vital role in the hospital’s surgical and critical care cases, applying advanced techniques to manage pain and optimise patient outcomes. His deep clinical knowledge, combined with a calm and methodical approach, makes him an invaluable part of the extended specialist team.

In addition to his clinical work, Kenneth has a strong background in both academia and private practice. He regularly lectures and trains veterinarians across South Africa and is actively involved in research and continuing education within the field of veterinary anaesthesia.

When he’s not in scrubs, Kenneth enjoys running, trail adventures, and spending time outdoors to stay active and refreshed.

Specialist Veterinary Surgeon – Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery

Dr. Sara Boyd is the only board-certified small animal specialist surgeon currently practicing in KwaZulu-Natal. Since joining Hilton Veterinary Hospital in November 2019, she has become an essential member of the team, offering expert surgical care and pain management consultations with precision and compassion.

With advanced training in both orthopaedic and neurosurgical procedures, Sara brings world-class surgical expertise to the hospital—restoring mobility, relieving pain, and improving quality of life for countless patients. Her clinical focus is always on ensuring that each animal receives the safest and most effective treatment tailored to their specific needs.

Sara’s dedication to her field extends beyond the operating room. She is passionate about client communication and helping pet owners feel informed and confident in the care their pets receive.

Outside of her professional work, Sara enjoys the outdoors—especially horse riding and exploring the bush. She is married to Mark, and together they have three children: Jordan, Tyla, and Aimee.
